Every day, people across the North East travel by bus, but every journey is different.
For some, the bus means freedom and independence, for others it's a connection to friends, family, work or the wider world. Throughout 2026, we captured bus stories and experiences from marginalised communities across the North East, including people with a learning disability and autistic people, young people, refugees, older people, and LGBTQ+ communities.
The stories and anecdotes in this storybank have inspired a new, immersive, multimedia performance, staged not in a traditional theatre but on a bus, that will tour the region in 2027.
