Join our Academies now!

The Academies are an exciting opportunity for adults and younger people with learning disabilities and autism to take part in music, dance, DJing, and performing arts sessions, and to showcase their work to the wider community.

The Academies help participants to:
Build their confidence
Develop new friendships and relationships
Play a more active role in their community
Strengthen their team work and communication skills
Increase their independence 
Improve their health and wellbeing 

Band Academy

Work with professional musicians to develop your music skills, to write your own songs, and to perform live at gig nights and events. 

Time and place: Tuesdays, 10 – 4 pm, Twisting Ducks Studio, Westgate Community College, West Rd, Newcastle

Performing Arts Academies

Develop your skills in writing, acting, physical theatre and directing. Make you own drama and film and perform live at theatre nights  

Time and place: 
Saturdays, 10 – 4 pm, Twisting Ducks Studio, Westgate Community College, West Rd, Newcastle 
                              
Fridays, 1 – 4 pm, Methodist Centre, Morpeth, Northumberland

Dance Academy

Learn musical dance routines and different dance styles. Create your own dance numbers for music videos and live performances.

Time and Place:
Fridays
 1 - 4 pm (aged 16 +)
4:30 - 6:30 pm (aged 13 - 18) Stanley Civic Hall, County Durham 

Youth Theatre Academy (11 - 16 yrs)
Develop your skills in writing, acting and directing. Make you own drama and film and perform live at theatre nights  

Time and place: Saturdays, 10 – 4 pm, Broadacre House, Newcastle
 DJ Academy 
Learn DJing skills with the help of a professional DJ and have a go at DJing live at the FRESH club night 

Time and place: Thursdays, 10 – 1 pm,Twisting Ducks Studio, Westgate Community College, West Rd, Newcastle New Paragraph
Teenage Kicks Youth Band (13 - 18 yrs) 
Work with professional musicians to develop your music and performance skills, to write and record your own songs, and to perform live at gigs and events. 

Time and place: Tuesdays, 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Broadacre House, Newcastle City Centre 
How much do the academies cost?

Full day £39
Half day £19.50
2 hour session £13.00
The Academy programme runs for 47 week per year.  

Who can join?

Anyone with a learning disability or autism, aged 11+
